The UK's Momentum Pictures has picked up all UK rights to Amelie From Montmartre, a French-language comedy from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director of Alien Resurrection and one half of the team behind Delicatessen and The City Of Lost Children.

The UGC International title has just secured a special public screening at the Cannes Film Festival in May and goes on French release this week. The story of a naïve girl who tries to help others find love but discovers love herself stars Audrey Tautou and Mathieu Kassovitz.

The deal was announced by Momentum chief David Kosse and negotiated by Sally Caplan, senior vice president of acquisitions and business affairs. Miramax Films picked up US rights on the title during this year's AFM.

"Amelie was one of the most delightful scripts I'd read in a long while," Caplan said.
