Japanese second worldwar naval epic Yamato: The Last Battle will receive its international premiere at the Montreal World FilmFestival (MWFF).
Directed by Junya Sato, produced by Haruki Kadokawa for the Toei Studio, andstarring Takashi Sorimachi and Shido Nakamura, the film recounts the lastmission of the pride of the Japanese fleet during the closing months of the conflict.
"As soon as it came out in Japanese theatres, the blockbuster Yamato: TheLast Battle was destined forsuccess," MWFF president Serge Losique said in a statement.
"It set a box office record, becoming the first Japanese film ever to post more than one million viewers within days of opening. By presenting Yamato:The Last Battle, the MWFF hopes toprovide moviegoers with an opportunity to discover a quality epic ofcontemporary Japanese cinema."
