Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios has named former Univision, NBC and Comedy Central executive Lourdes Diaz as head of television.

Diaz will oversee all scripted, non-scripted, non-fiction and digital activity at the company’s AGC Television division.

Diaz, who began her career as an agent at ICM, most recently served as president of entertainment for Univision Communications, working with Televisa, Netflix, Globo, Endemol and other partners on scripted and non-scripted formats and specials.

Previously, she was head of global production and development at Viacom International’s Comedy Central and vice-president, primetime programming at NBC and Universal Media Studios, serving as executive producer on series including House, Parenthood and The Office.

AGC was launched in February after Ford left IM Global because of a disagreement over strategy with majority owners Tang Media Partners. Headquartered in Los Angeles and London, the new company is backed by Latin American private asset management firm MediaNet Partners, Symantec CEO and Fibonacci Films founder and chairman Greg Clark and Image Nation Abu Dhabi.

In a statement, AGC said that over the coming months it “anticipates announcing a number of further executive hires in the television arena and production partnerships across film and television.”

Ford is an executive producer on DirectTV’s crime series Ice, forthcoming Cinemax action series Jet and upcoming Lifetime drama series American Princess.

Commenting on Diaz’s appointment, Ford said: “Lourdes’ impressively deep resume, with her extensive experience across hour-long dramas, mini-series, scripted and unscripted comedy in multiple formats, international co-productions and multi-cultural content, make her a perfect fit for what we hope will be a diverse and prolific AGC Television output over the coming years. We’re very excited to have Lourdes come on board to spearhead our TV production activities.”

Diaz added: “I look forward to joining Stuart and AGC Studios and building on their appetite to create a global content studio that spans platforms in this ever-changing industry. AGC Studios comes to the table with the resources for us to take big swings. I am thrilled to bring forth the next generation of content – scripted and non-scripted, from comedy to drama, in the US and globally.”
