Black Bear has recruited Bianca Parkes as head of marketing and Heather Phillips as head of publicity for its growing US distribution operation.
Parkes joins the production, finance and distribution company from Neon. Phillips previously did stints with 101 Studios and 20th Century Fox.
The two executives will work on up to 12 films per year from Black Bear’s expanding domestic distribution operation, reporting to the company’s president of US distribution Benjamin Kramer.
Black Bear’s upcoming releases include Jason Statham Stole My Bike, starring Statham and Hannah Waddingham; A Woman in the Sun, with Renée Zellweger, Sissy Spacek and Mia Threapleton; and The Rivals of Amziah King, led by Matthew McConaughey.
Parkes spent more than seven years at Neon, most recently as executive vice president and executive creative director, leading campaigns for releases including Parasite, Anora and Longlegs.
Phillips led 20th Century Fox’s theatrical publicity and awards team for nearly a decade, overseeing campaigns for such films as Bohemian Rhapsody, The Revenant and installments in the Deadpool and X-Men franchises. At 101 Studios she was chief communications officer.
Commenting on the appointments Kramer said: “This is another big moment in Black Bear’s growth as a domestic distributor, as we welcome two exceptionally talented and respected executives. Audiences connect with films and filmmakers via a broad swath of touchpoints, from trusted friends and tastemakers and on screens of all shapes and sizes. Bianca and Heather deeply understand today’s audiences and have shown their ability to drive engagement with innovative and resonant campaigns. They will be great additions as we continue to build a leading theatrical distribution business. We are thrilled to welcome them to Black Bear.”
