Broadcast Intelligence has published a report on Netflix’s working practices, produced through interviews with producers and distributors from across the industry.

Full transcripts of interviews with 15 producers and distributors are included in the report, which is titled ‘Working With Netflix’. These interviews have been combined with analysis to draw out trends and common factors.

The analyses of responses produced insights including the fact that Netflix commissioners have clear “tastes” on how they expect ideas to be pitched; that the company respects creative freedoms, while at the same time being increasingly astute in negotiations; and that it has become more flexible about the rights it expects.

In general, producers describe a positive experience across a broad range of touch-points, although potential sticking points were identified around feedback and marketing.

Other topics covered in the report include representation, development, delivery, financing, rights negotiations and the streaming giant’s changing tastes in content.

The full report is available here, at a price of £250 until the end of May 2019.
