‘The Intern’

EXCLUSIVE: Beijing-based Blossoms Entertainment is expanding its international sales scope, adding the South Korean remake of The Intern as its first ever title from the country.

The sales company has secured worldwide rights to the feature from Warner Bros Korea, excluding Aia. Directed by Kim Do-young, the film led the South Korea box-office on its opening weekend (September 18-20).

Choi Min-sik and Kim Ki-ho star the roles played by Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in Nancy Meyers’ 2015 film. Like the original, the story revolves around a retired executive who returns to the workforce as an intern, joining a fashion startup led by a young entrepreneur.

Also on Blossoms’ slate at Busan’s Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) is a trio of recently released Chinese titles. They include Traces Of Justices from Detective Chinatown director Chen Sicheng’s, which became the box-office champion of China’s National Day holiday (October 1-8), taking $63.1m (RMB423m).

Inspired by pioneering trace evidence expert Cui Daozhi, it follows a forensic investigator over five decades as he traces the smallest of clues to solve seemingly perfect crimes. Zhang Yi (Full River Red) and Ma Li (Article 20) lead the cast.

Dunhuang Warriors, the feature debut of TV director Cao Dun, is a historical action epic about a group of rebels who stage an uprising to reclaim a desert stronghold from a ruthless warlord. Zhang Peng, the stunt coordinator for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, handles the action choreography, with Zhang Yu and Dou Xiao in the cast.

Rounding out the new titles is Xiang Guoqiang’s My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday, a romantic fantasy about two lovers who live in a parallel world where their time runs in reverse, meaning his tomorrow is her yesterday. The cast includes Bi Wenjun and He Landou.
