Focus Features has set an October 3 awards corridor release date for Anemone, the much anticipated drama that will mark Daniel Day-Lewis’ return to the screen after eight years.
Day-Lewis’ son Ronan Day-Lewis makes his directing debut on the project and father and son co-wrote the screenplay, which deals with the complex ties between brothers, fathers and sons.
Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, Safia Oakley-Green and Samantha Morton star alongside the elder Day-Lewis. Plan B is producing.
The project shot last autumn in the north of England and Wales with Ben Fordesman serving as director of photography, Jane Petrie as costume designer and Chris Oddy as production designer.
Focus will give the film a limited launch on October 3 and expand the release on October 10. Universal Pictures International will distribute internationally.
Daniel Day-Lewis last appeared on screen in Focus Features’ 2017 release Phantom Thread, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. A few months before that film’s release he announced he was retiring from acting.
Often regarded as the greatest actor of the modern era, Day-Lewis won lead actor Oscars for Lincoln in 2013, There Will Be Blood in 2008 and My Left Foot in 1990. He was nominated for the Oscar on three other occasions, most recently for Phantom Thread.
Ronan Day-Lewis is a painter and filmmaker who has made several short films.
