Double Dutch International (DDI) has come on board to launch worldwide sales at AFM on upcoming sci-fi thriller Control Group starring Jennifer Carpenter.

Liz Manashil directs from a screenplay by Amy Starbin and Michael Nathanson about a scientist who, after losing his wife, replicates her in the hope of continuing the perfect life they started together. Complications soon arise when the derivative wife develops desires of her own.

Carpenter (Dexter) is producing alongside Noah Lang for Witchcraft Motion Picture Company, Nathanson for Magic Scope, and Ross Meyerson. Executive producers are Daniel Harlow for Bunker15 Films and Tom Putnam. The project is in pre-production.

Manashil’s first film Bread & Butter was released by The Orchard and her follow-up Speed Of Life aired on Showtime. She previously served as manager of Sundance’s Creative Distribution Initiative.

DDI’s SVP Mark Padilla negotiated the deal with Daniel Harlow, Lang, and Nathanson on behalf of the filmmakers and said, “Control Group is one of the most original scripts I’ve read in some time. I am thrilled to be working with Noah and his team. I believe Liz will deliver an exceptional movie.”

Control Group represents the perfect intersection of intelligent, heightened genre filmmaking and thematic character-driven storytelling,” said Lang. “Working with a rising filmmaker like Liz, our amazingly creative and producing team, and the fantastic people at DDI is the rare opportunity to build a commercial and impactful genre film from the ground up.”

DDI’s AFM market line-up includes the Lionsgate-released thriller Escape The Field, romance Midday Black Midnight Blue, and the horror mockumentary When The Screaming Starts.
