Mirren to be an honorary guest at 25th European Film Awards Ceremony, to be held in Malta on Dec 1.

Dame Helen Mirren has received the European Film Academy’s (EFA) honorary award of European Achievement In World Cinema for her “outstanding body of work”.

Mirren will be an honorary guest at this year’s European Film Awards Ceremony, set to take place in Malta on Dec 1.

“It was discovering the immense diversity of European filmmaking that gave me an enduring love and respect for the art form,” stated Mirren on receiving the news. “This award is therefore a very meaningful honour. I would be proud to be counted as an actor in the European tradition.”

Her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen saw Mirren pick up an Oscar and BAFTA award for best actress, among others, with nominations from the EFA coming for Mirren’s roles in Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.
