‘Tiger’

Japan’s Free Stone Productions has boarded international sales for Tiger, the upcoming LGBTQ+ drama from Tokyo-based Indian director Anshul Chauhan.

It was revealed today (August 19) that the feature will receive its world premiere at Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) next month in its competitive Vision – Asia section.

The film, produced by Mina Moteki at Kowatanda Films and Michael Carrier at Tower5 Entertainment, is written by Chauhan and centres on a closeted gay masseuse in Tokyo who faces the loss of his inheritance due to his sexuality after his father falls ill.

The feature reunites actor Takashi Kawaguchi with director Chauhan after courtroom drama December, which premiered at BIFF in 2022, and acclaimed 2018 drama Bad Poetry Tokyo. The cast also includes Maho Nonami and Yuya Endo, known for his roles in Godzilla Minus One, Muromachi Outsiders and Cannes 2021 drama Onoda: 10,000 Nights In The Jungle.

It marks the fourth film from Chauhan, who was born in India and moved to Tokyo to work as an animator in 2011. His feature directorial debut Bad Poetry Tokyo won the top prize at the Brussels International Independent Film Festival in 2018.
