IFC Films is acquiring US rights to Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip.

The British comedy (pictured), which premiered at Toronto, stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, with Andrew Eaton and Melissa Parmenter of Revolution Films producing.

IFC Films previously worked with Revolution on the US releases of Winterbottom projects The Red Riding Trilogy, The Shock Doctrine and The Killer Inside Me.

Reprising their fictionalized roles from Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story, Coogan and Brydon reunite in the largely improvised film as friends taking a research trip around the restaurants and historic locations of the UK’s picturesque Lake District and Yorkshire Dales regions.

The deal was negotiated by IFC Films’ senior vice president of acquisitions and co-productions Arianna Bocco with Andrew Eaton, co-director of Revolution Films.
