
Sony Pictures Animation/Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters and Pixar/Disney’s Elio lead the field of nominees for the this year’s Annie Awards, with ten nods each.
The two films go head to head in Annie categories including best animated feature, feature FX, feature character animation, feature character design and feature music.
Also nominated for the best animated feature Annie are Maybe Movies’ Little Amelie Or The Character Of Rain, DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys 2 and Disney’s Zootopia 2.
Up for the best independent animated feature Annie are Mediawan’s A Magnificent Life, Remembers’ Arco, Cinema Fantasma’s I’m Frankela, Netflix/Climax Studio’s Lost In Starlight and Studio Chizu’s Scarlet.
Set to be presented in Los Angeles on February 21, the Annies are awarded by ASIFA-Hollywood, the largest chapter of the Association Internationale du Film D’Animation.
Also to be honoured during the ceremony are the three winners of this year’s Winsor McCay Award: Dutch animator Michael Dudok de Wit, known for projects including Oscar-nominated feature The Red Turtle; the prolific US filmmaking team of Christopher Miller and Phil Lord; and animation veteran Chris Sanders, known most recently for writing and directing The Wild Robot.
