EXCLUSIVE Tibetan feature Linka Linka continues to do brisk business almost a year after its world premiere at Tokyo as Chinese sales agent Parallax Films closes further key territories.
Kangdrun’s feature debut - the first-ever fiction feature directed by a Tibetan woman - has been sold to Lantuo Pictures for France with a release planned for November, Day For Night (UK) and Edko Films (Hong Kong). Singapore-based pan-Asian streaming platform CinemaWorld has acquired OTT rights for Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries.
The local release in mainland China is due on October 13 through the National Alliance of Arthouse Cinemas, while Tokyo-based Moviola released the film in Japan on September 11.
The film follows a woman who returns to Tibetan capital Lhasa to shoot a film about her childhood friend, creating ripples in reality as memories start to pour in.
It has earned several awards, including the Firebird Award for best film at Hong Kong and a jury special mention at Taipei.
Meanwhile, Kangdrun is presenting her new project Orlo In The House at Busan’s Asian Project Market (APM). The drama is about two young Tibetans who embark on an adventure where they find faith and themselves.
