EXCLUSIVE: Malaysian hitmaker Skop Productions is launching sales of Syafiq Yusof’s Black Ops, a landmark collaboration with Hong Kong’s One Cool Film Production, featuring talent from both territories.
The Malay-language action thriller follows an elite Black Ops operative who is forced to turn against his own unit to unravel a conspiracy after being framed for the murder of his wife and the disappearance of their daughter.
Syafiq is a celebrated director of blockbuster action hits such as 2025’s Blood Brothers: Fury Of The Dragon (as co-director) and 2024’s Sheriff: Narko Integriti, Malaysia’s second and fourth biggest local films ever with takings of $19.6mm (RM77m) and $16m (RM63m) respectively. Both are produced and distributed by Skop Productions, which is also the distributor of Mat Kilau, the country’s biggest local feature on $24.7m (RM97m)
Sharnaaz Ahmad from Blood Brothers: Fury Of The Dragon and Polis Evo 3 – the country’s sixth largest local film with $13.8m (RM54m) – heads the cast along with Hong Kong’s Ben Yuen, and Hisyam Hamid. A first look at Ahmad in the film can be seen above.
Further Hong Kong talent attached to the feature include rising filmmaker Chui Tze Yiu (Showbiz Spy, Remember What I Forgot) as co-director, who is also responsible for coming up with the original idea; and action choreographers Ken Law whose credits include Good Game, nominated at both the Golden Horse Awards and the upcoming Hong Kong Film Awards, and Sean Lin who was part of the action team on recent Hong Kong hit Back To The Past.
Producers are Sharmin Yusof from Skop Productions and Tang Wai But from One Cool. It is scheduled for release in November.
