Mamma Mia! – The Movie has become the best selling DVD of all time in the UK, according to the BVA (British Video Association).

Mamma Mia! − The Movie, released through Universal Home Entertainment, has sold over 6m DVDs since its release in 2008, according to charts supplied by the BVA based on data from the Official Charts Company (OCC).

The musical-comedy has knocked the The Lord Of The Rings – Fellowship Of The Rings (Entertainment in Video) off the number-one position.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy still dominates the charts, with each film holding a place in the top five best-selling titles, coming in at number two, three and five, selling in total almost 16m copies.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean – The Curse Of The Black Pearl (The Walt Disney Company) comes in at number four, having sold just over 5m copies to date.

Martin Talbot, Managing Director of OCC said: “Mamma Mia! is truly a phenomenon of our time, with one in four households now owning a copy.”

Mamma Mia! is the third-biggest grosser ever at the UK theatrical box office behind Avatar and Toy Story 3.
