Metropolitan Export has snapped up French rights to Michael Covino’s comedy drama The Climb ahead of its premiere in Un Certain Regard. Paris-based Memento Films International (MFI) is handling sales outside North America to which Endeavor Content has rights.

Born out of Covino’s short film of the same name, which screened in Sundance in 2018, the feature revolves around the enduring but tumultuous relationship between best friends Kyle and Mike.

Covino co-wrote the screenplay with Kyle Marvin. The pair also co-star in the film. Further cast members include Gayle Rankin Judith Godreche, and Talia Balsam.

Metropolitan’s Cannes slate also includes Claude Lelouch’s Out Of Competition title The Best Years Of A Life, which the company also produced.

The MFI Cannes sales slate features Diao Yinan’s Cannes Competition title The Wild Goose Lake.
