Oscar-nominated actor failed to recover from heart attack suffered in July.

Michael Clarke Duncan has died, aged 54.

The actor, who was nominated for his role as prison inmate John Coffey in The Green Mile, died on Monday at Cedars-Sinai medical centre in Los Angeles. A statement issued by a spokesman said Duncan “suffered a myocardial infarction on 13 July and never fully recovered”.

Duncan was born in Chicago in 1957 and launched his acting career in 1995 after work as a bodyguard for the likes of Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. His most recent role was as Leo Knox in TV series The Finder, and Duncan appeared in the likes of Armageddon, The Whole Nine Yards, Daredevil, Sin City and Breakfast Of Champions.

He is survived by his fiancée Omarosa Manigault.
