EXCLUSIVE: Hong Kong’s Media Asia is launching sales at the Cannes market of Bai Xue’s This Is My Time, starring Oscar-winning best actress Michelle Yeoh in her first Chinese-language film in almost a decade.

Produced by Wen Muye through his Shanghai-based General Dream Studio, the film is a comedy drama set for release this year. It also stars Liu Haoran from the Detective Chinatown franchise. Media Asia handles international sales.

Yeoh plays a 70-year-old woman who wants to reclaim her life after being sent to a nursing home. Her opportunity comes when a young coach discovers her rare talent in solving the Rubik’s Cube and turns her into a record breaker and TV show sensation.

Director Bai made her feature debut with 2018’s The Crossing, which premiered at Toronto and Berlin.

Malaysia-born Yeoh won the best actress Oscar in 2023 for Everything Everywhere All At Once. Her acting career took off in Hong Kong, making a name for herself as an action star in the 1980s and 1990s, before crossing over to Hollywood.

Yeoh has not performed in a Chinese-language film since 2018’s Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, in which she made a special appearance.
