STXfilms announced on Thursday that sales veteran Mike Viane will join the company as executive vice-president / head of sales.

Viane, a 20-year tenure at Warner Bros who oversaw a slate of more than 20 films a year that generated more than $1bn in annual box office, will commence on September 1.

In his new role, the executive will assume oversight of theatrical sales and distribution management and play an integral role in strategic planning, contract negotiations and market expansion.

Kevin Grayson, STXfilms’ president of domestic distribution to whom Viane will report, said: “Mike’s track record and expertise is unparalleled. We will rely on his vast experience and extensive network to accelerate the next phase of our expansion.”

Viane also served as a consultant at Bleecker Street and Vision Media Management and served as senior vice-president and head film buyer for Regal Entertainment Group.
