‘Mr Nobody Against Putin’

Kino Lorber has acquired North American distribution rights to Mr Nobody Against Putin, one of the films that was still seeking US distribution when it made this year’s shortlist for the documentary feature Oscar

Kino Lorber is planning a release in select cinemas and as part of its Kino Film Collection streaming service on later in January.

Directed by David Borenstein and co-directed by Pavel Talankin, the documentary follows Russian teacher Talankin as he documents the rise of militarised children’s groups and fervent nationalism at his primary school.

The film, which won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award at last year’s Sundance festival, is a co-production between Denmark’s Made in Copenhagen and the Czech Republic’s Pink. Helle Faber, Radovan Síbrt and Alžběta Karásková produced and DR Sales is handling sales.

Borenstein commented: “Pavel Talankin risked everything to bring this footage into the open. I’m grateful to Kino Lorber for helping us share it across North America, because the questions the film raises aren’t confined to Russia.”

Kino Lorber chief distribution and revenue officer Lisa Schwartz added: “Mr. Nobody Against Putin first caught our eye at its Sundance premiere last year, where our team was both gripped and charmed by Pasha Talankin’s stunning bravery, unwavering determination and quick wit in the face of a truly daunting adversary. Now more than ever, speaking the truth in this era of disinformation has become critically important. We’re honoured to partner with David, Pasha, and DR Sales to bring this remarkable work of nonfiction to North American audiences.”
