‘Happy Gilmore 2’

Netflix’s ad-supported tier has now reached more than 250m global monthly active viewers and will expand into an additional 15 countries starting next year.

The tier, already available in markets including the US, the UK, France, Germany, Brazil and Japan, will roll out into Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Thailand from 2027.

The ad tier was launched in late 2022 and had attracted just five million subscribers as of three years ago. The streamer most recently reported its total subscriber count as 325m at the end of 2025.

News of the ad tier expansion came at Netflix’s annual upfront presentation to advertisers.

New projects announced at the presentation included feature Grown Ups 3, a sequel to the two Adam Sandler comedies made for Sony more than a decade ago. Sandler, who now has a deal at Netflix and last year starred in the streamer’s Happy Gilmore 2 hit, will write the sequel’s script with Tim Herlihy and produce alongside Herlihy, Jackie Sandler and Jack Giarraputo.

Kyle Newacheck will direct a cast reuniting Sandler with Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade and Rob Schneider. New additions to the cast will include Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Joyce Van Patten and Salma Hayek.

Also announced by Netflix was feature A Matter of Time, with Ben Stiller, Nicholas Galitzine and Bella Maclean set to star for British director Harry Bradbeer. The film centres on an unlikely angel sent from heaven to convince a reclusive man to give up his life for the greater good.
