‘The Simpsons Movie’

Walt Disney Studios has revealed a new feature spin-off from The Simpsons and set the film for release on July 23, 2027.

No details of the yet-to-be-titled project – which takes the slot previously earmarked by Disney for an untitled Marvel film – were announced.

The release will come almost exactly 20 years after the July 27, 2007 launch through Twentieth Century Fox of The Simpsons Movie, the first, and to date only feature spin-off from Matt Groening’s classic animated TV series.

The earlier film was written by series creator Groening, along with James L Brooks, Al Jean and other members of the TV show’s creative team, with David Silverman directing. It went on to gross $536m worldwide, with $183m coming from the North American box office and $353m from other markets.

Launched as a stand-alone show on the Fox broadcast network in 1989, The Simpsons is now the longest-running US scripted primetime series of all time.

Other big features recently set for release in the summer of 2027 include Disney’s Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled for May 28, Universal and DreamWorks Pictures’ sequel to this summer’s live-action How To Train Your Dragon, due on June 11, and Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5, set for June 30.
