Apple has added to its growing series slate by giving a 10-episode order to Are You Sleeping, a true-crime drama starring Octavia Spencer and produced by Reese Witherspoon.
The series, produced by Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and the scripted drama venture of Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content, will look at America’s obsession with true-crime podcasts and the consequences of putting the pursuit of justice on a public stage.
Nichelle Tramble Spellman, a writer and producer on Justified and The Good Wife, is the creator and will write the series, based on the 2017 novel by Kathleen Barber.
Spencer, Tramble, Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Neustadter will serve as executive producers, along with Chernin’s Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Kristen Campo.
Witherspoon is already on board two other series for Apple: an untitled drama in which she will star with Jennifer Aniston, and an untitled comedy with Kristen Wiig.
Apple’s other series include sci-fi drama See, anthology reboot Amazing Stories with Steven Spielberg, and a drama series that Damien Chazelle will write and direct.
