South Korea’s Aa Films is making its debut at Busan’s Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) with a slate of 17 titles
The burgeoning sales and distribution company, which was launched in January by sales executive Inho Jeong, has a lineup led by Lost Boys, an upcoming mystery drama from director Choi Beom-seok. Starring Kim Woo-seung (No Other Choice) and K-pop star Yoon Seo-yeon, it follows a directionless teenager who finds a new sense of belonging with a group who sell drugs.
Completed titles include Divine Sung’s Summer Camera, a coming-of-age drama starring Kim Sia (Kill Boksoon), and Kim Duk-joong’s The Love Of Truman, which played at Busan last year.
Further features include Hwang Wook’s crime thriller The Woman, which premiered at Fantasia; Kim Jun-seok’s All Is Well, I Love You, which played in competition at Jeonju; and crime drama Risk Society, for which Kim Byung-jun won best director at Bifan.
Inho, who previously built the international sales division at Seoul-based CMnix, said the company will specialise in independent films and shorts, handling sales and distribution.
“The connections and trust I’ve developed along the way means that many producers and directors have recently begun reaching out to us with their projects,” Inho told Screen. He added that the company would aim to “discover and support new voices in Korean cinema”.
After making its market debut at Shanghai, Aa Films will next attend Tokyo’s TIFFCOM.
