Taiwan’s Mirror Fiction announced the formation of Mirror Entertainment, a new venture aimed at developing film and TV projects at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) today (November 7).
The venture was established in partnership with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA). Mirror Fiction and TAICCA have collectively invested $10m (NT$310m) into the venture. Additional partners include Ruen Tai Shing Co., Ltd. and Field Stone Investment Holding, Inc.
Mirror Entertainment aims to develop 10 films and TV series over its first five years of operation. It will be led by Tung Cheng-yu, the CEO of Mirror Fiction.
Mirror Fiction is a literary agent and development company that has developed IPs based on its fiction and non-fiction literary properties, including journalism thriller Tabloid and legal drama Port of Lies, which won seven Golden Bell Awards.
Among the 10 titles in development are Godless, which is based on a true story about a string of murders perpetrated by a woman in Taiwan; Until The Next Appointment, a comedy about a former child star-turned-psychiatrist; The Vow Of Banana Leaf and Tree, a tale about Indigenous communities and Taiwan and Japan’s shared love of baseball; The Cleaning Guide For Murderers, based on a top-rated novel on Mirror Fiction’s online platform; Diamonds And Bread, a thriller about a reporter looking for a diamond who instead finds spies; Hopscotch, a horror film about family trauma; and Gangster Priest, a black comedy about a gangster-turned-priest who still has to deal with his former gang.
Chairman Tung described Mirror Entertainment as one that will “tell stories that carry important messages that help the audience learn something along the way” but that has “entertainment at its core.” She also laid out an international vision for the company, saying she wants to “transcend the boundaries of nations and blur them to point that they are invisible so audiences from every corner of world will be able to relate to our works.
“International partnership is necessary,” continued Tung. “We know the Taiwanese market, but internationally we can use each other’s resources to bring works to multiple markets.”
Wang Min-hui, CEO of TAICCA, praised Mirror Fiction for its “great capability and diversified, unique content that transcends cultural barriers.”
