EXCLUSIVE: Thai studio GDH 559 is to launch comedy drama GFF and an Untitled Snooker project to buyers at the Cannes market, produced by acclaimed filmmakers Banjong Pisanthanakun, Vanridee Pongsittisak and Baz Poonpiriya, to international buyers.
Both projects are in development for delivery in 2027.
GFF reunites Banjong with twin directors Wanweaw and Weawwan Hongvivatana, following their collaboration on You & Me & Me. The comedy drama dives into the chaotic, fluid, and funny side of love, focusing on a long-term gay couple who face an unexpected identity crisis.
It examines the contemporary social phenomenon of straight people enjoying the lovey-dovey moments between same-sex couples, known as GayDose in Thailand, while also addressing broader debates regarding authenticity versus performance in such relationships.
The Untitled Snooker project is produced by Vanridee Pongsittisak, producer of box-office phenomenon How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, and Bad Genius director Baz for filmmaker Wattanapong Wongwan from Netflix’s hit series The Believers.
The drama thriller is inspired by the true story of a former Thai snooker prodigy who once stood among the world’s elite yet remains bound by the lifelong debt owed to his family.
GDH’s slate also includes upcoming horror Inherit, directed by Banjong with Barunson E&A from Korea onboard for non-Asia sales; and heartfelt stray dog film Gohan, produced by Vanridee and Baz with the latter also co-directing.
