‘Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other’

EXCLUSIVE: Juno Films has acquired US distribution rights to CPH:DOX premiere Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other, feature debut of directors Manon Ouimet and Jacob Perlmutter.

The documentary will get a limited US theatrical release starting on April 3.

Two Strangers tells the story of artist couple Joel Meyerowitz and Maggie Barrett, who are still in love after 30 years but whose relationship is not without complications.

The film had its world premiere at CPH:DOX in 2024 and received a DOX:AWARD Special Mention. It also won the best arts and documentary prize at last year’s Grierson British Documentary Awards.

The UK’s Manon et Jacob and Denmark’s Final Cut for Real produced, with Signe Byrge Sørensen co-producing. Fremantle label Undeniable and Louverture Films were executive producers. The US sale was negotiated between Mediawan and Juno.

Juno co-founder Vondah Elizabeth Sheldon commented: “The directors Manon and Jacob have created an intimate and profoundly honest portrait of two artists who are devoted to each other but must navigate the shoals of competing ambition, frailty, and forgiveness in later life. It is a rare film that captures the quotidian battles of long-term relationships between two strong personalities with humour and compassion. Many viewers will see themselves reflected in the film.”

Ouimet, Perlmutter and Sørensen added: “We are thrilled to be working with Juno on the release of our film. It takes a lot of guts and a big heart to release something so nuanced and healing, and we are honoured to be in this collaboration.”
