Hollywood independent film and documentary producer Chris Chesser, best known for producing 1989 Paramount comedy Major League, has died at age 74.
Chesser died suddenly at his home in Los Angeles on February 2, according to a statement from his family.
Chesser began his film career in New York in 1974 as an international sales executive for Columbia Pictures before becoming general manager of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles in 1976.
As an executive, he did stints at Orion Pictures, Marble Arch Productions and Filmways, supervising films including Caddyshack, Arthur, Excalibur and On Golden Pond.
In 1990, he teamed with Alan Beattie to form Beattie/Chesser Productions, whose films included The Wrong Man, Exquisite Tenderness and Under Pressure.
More recently, Chesser produced 2012 thriller Bloodwork and 2015 comedy Absolutely Anything.
He is survived by his brothers Alan and Steve Chesser.
