Maciej Sobieszczanski and Lukasz Ronduda’s directorial debut stars Oskar Dawicki as himself.

The Performer, Wajda Studio’s first Polish full-length feature film, has wrapped shooting.

The directorial debut of Maciej Sobieszczanski and Lukasz Ronduda, The Performer stars Oskar Dawicki as himself, along with 2010 Berlinale shooting star Agata Buzek, Andrzej Chyra and Jakub Gierszal.

The Performer centres on the life of Dawicki, the performance artist known for his ‘Baloniarz’ act during which he hangs himself from the gallery’s ceiling suspended only by a noose and helium balloons, facing the risk of dying by hanging if any of the balloons burst.

“At the beginning of writing process we’d ask real Oskar Dawicki a lot of questions,” explained writer-directors Sobieszczanski and Ronduda. “As the time went by, we had less and less questions and the ‘fictional Oskar’ became an independent character.”

The €300,000 film is co-financed by Polish Film Institute and Art Stations Foundation and is co-produced by Telewizja Polska S.A., Futro Film, Heliograf, Film Factory and Artcore.

The Performer’s premiere is scheduled for Spring 2013.
