Well Go USA has acquired North American rights to Chinese martial arts action film Blades Of The Guardians from Mandarin Motion Pictures.
It is directed by Yuen Woo-ping, acclaimed for his action choreography on The Matrix franchise and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and is set for release on February 17 during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
Based on the comic by Xianzhe Xu, the historical action film has a cast led by Wu Jing of the Wolf Warrior series, who also produced the film, and Jet Li (Once Upon a Time in China). Further cast includes Nicholas Tse (Raging Fire), Yosh Yu (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms), and boyband stars Jun of Seventeen and Winwin of NCT.
Set during the Sui Dynasty under the rule of the oppressive Emperor Yang Guang, the film follows a skilled mercenary as he treks across harsh deserts. Tasked with a seemingly simple escort mission, the warrior unknowingly becomes caught in a perilous and dangerous scheme.
Produced by Peace Film Production, it was written by Yu Baimei, Chao-pin Su, Chan Tai Lee and Larry Yang.
