The cinema chain has acquired 3 multiplexes from Pathe.
The Odeon & UCI Cinema Group, via it’s subsidiary UCI Italia, is to acquire three major multiplexes from Pathe in Italy.
Based in Florence, Rome and Turin, the three multiplexes have 39 screens between them. UCI Italia will now have 28 cinemas in Italy, with 303 screens.
The cinema chain will now operate 210 cinemas and 1900 screens around Europe. It is market leader in the UK, and in Spain.
“The acquisition of the Italian Pathe Circuit represents another turning point in UCI Italia”, said Rupert Gavin, CEO of Odeon & UCI Cinemas Group.
“Our Circuit adds three important high standing sites which, combined with the existing 25 UCI Italian cinemas, allow us to have a strategic and widespread presence in this country with an estimated attendance of 13.7 million people for 2011”.
