New York-based Offline Releasing has acquired US distribution rights to Korean director Jang Sun Woo's controversial film Lies and will work with boutique distributor Cowboy Booking International to release the film at arthouse venues nationwide, starting with a New York play-date on Nov 17.

Featured in both the 1999 Venice Film Festival (Official Competition) and 1999 Toronto Film Festival, Lies chronicles the sexual odyssey of a 38-year-old sculptor and a much younger woman in contemporary Seoul.

The film stars Lee Sang Hyun and Kim Tae Yeon, both in their acting debuts. The screenplay is written by Jang Sun Woo, based on acclaimed Korean writer Jang Jung Il's 1996 novel Tell Me A Lie. Producer is Shin Chul.

Offline Releasing recently picked up domestic distribution rights to Agnes Jaoui's Le Gout Des Autres (The Taste Of Others) in a similar arrangement with Artistic License of New York.
