Optimum Releasing has picked up UK rights for Aachi & Ssipak, a BeavisAnd Butthead-style Korean animated feature about a futuristic world poweredby human feces. Represented by TubeEntertainment, the film has also been pre-sold to AB Films for Italy andProopitiki for Greece, and negotiations are underway with two major USstudios.
In addition, Tube has sold MTV the rightsto produce a 16-part TV series based on the film, and several European telecomscompanies have expressed interest in buying an existing flash animation seriesto distribute as mobile phone content.Directed by Joe Bum-jin, the "edgy" 2D feature is scheduledfor delivery in March 2005. "We'remarketing this as kind of an animated KillBill," says Tube's head of international sales Catherine Park.
Meanwhile, Tube has closed a deal with France's Canal Plus for librarytitle Sex Is Zero, a sex comedy thatearned upwards of $20m at the Korean box-office in 2002. Romantic drama ...ing has been sold to Lap TV for South American territories, and thecompany is also handling sales for SoCute, a black comedy tipped to screen in competition at next month's MoscowInternational Film Festival.
