The Northern Lights FilmFestival has announced that Orangeis now sponsoring the North Star Short Film Award, the largest film productionprize in the UK.

The award is open to UK film-makers and the winner will be assistedprofessional and financially to shoot a short film of any genre with a budgetof up to $75,030 (£40,000) in financial support or donated services.

Newcastle-based Yipp Films will produce the winner's short, with scriptguidance from The Script Factory and distribution from Dazzle Films.

The project will shootduring summer 2007 and premiere at the Northern Lights Film Festival later thatyear.

'We are delighted to beable to support up and coming film makers and to work with NLFF to providesuch an excellent opportunity," said Carmel O'hara,head of corporate social responsibility at Orange. "There are many talented new filmmakers in the UK and this is the chance to identify some of the best at the start oftheir careers.'

The festival runs Nov 16-23and the winner will be announced on Nov 17 during the Northern Lights IndustrySummit. Last year's winner of the North Star award was Ian Fenton for his film Black Dog.
