Former Fortissimo Films executive Raymond Phathanavirangoon has been appointed South-East Asian programmer at the Toronto International Film Festival.

His selection remit includes Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. His co-programmer, TIFF veteran Giovanna Fulvi, will continue to programme titles from mainland China, Japan and South Korea.

Fluent in many languages including English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Thai as well as proficient in French, Phathanavirangoon ('PA-tha-NA-vih-RAN-goon') previously worked as director of marketing and special projects for Fortissimo Films. Phathanavirangoon assumes his duties at Cannes.

He was the international programmer at the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival, the English editor for the Hong Kong International Film Festival and was a member of the Teddy Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2007.
