In recent years, severalbig-name US auteurs have beaten a path to Britain. Robert Altman shot Gosford Park in the Home Counties. WoodyAllen has recently completed a film in London. Now, Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, Badlands, Days Of Heaven)is UK-bound.

A spokesperson forPinewood Studios has confirmed that Malick has booked space for his New Linebacked production, The New World,which re-tells the story of the Indian princess, Pocahontas. In 1616,Pocahontas visited London and was paraded in high society. She died thefollowing year, aged 22, and is buried in Gravesend, England.

The film, starring ColinFarrell and Christian Bale, has already started shooting in Virginia.Pocahontas is played by Q'Orianka Kilcher.

The production is due todecamp to the UK in late October. Though TheNew World will not be taking advantage of UK tax breaks, a Britishco-producer, Peter La Terriere of First Foot Films, is on board the project.
