Pretty Pictures has acquired French rights to David Mackenzie's Hallam Foe from UK-based sales company Independent.

Mackenzie's drama, which won the Silver Bear in Berlin, stars Jamie Bell and Sophia Myles.

Pretty Pictures head James Velaise negotiated the deal with Independent's head of sales Abigail Walsh.

'We are absolutely thrilled that Pretty Pictures have come on board to be our Gallic partner,' Walsh said. 'Their enthusiasm and commitment is tremendous, making them the perfect home for the film's continued success, following its first prize at the recent Dinard Festival of British films.'

'We are very excited indeed to be distributing Hallam Foe across France, probably next June,' Velaise added. 'This is one those all too rare British films where everything clicks: the actors, the direction, the script, and especially the shear originality of the film coupled with that oh so rare 'feel good' factor.'

Hallam Foe's backers are Film4, Ingenious Film Partners, Scottish Screen, Glasgow Film Finance, Sigma Films, Lunar Films and Independent.
