The BFI Film Fund, Film 4 and Channel 4 backed feature documentary will focus on the significance of the year 1945 in British history.

Ken Loach has started production on his new feature length documentary, Spirit Of 45.

The doc is being co-financed by the BFI Film Fund, Film 4 and Channel 4. Rebecca O’Brien is producing for Sixteen Films, together with Kate Ogborn and Lisa Marie Russo for Fly Film Company.

The film will focus on 1945, a significant year in British history when changes in the post war social and political landscape helped to redefine how Britain was run.

Loach will use archive footage alongside photographs, sound recordings and contemporary interviews to celebrate a period of community spirit and a new kind of socialism in the UK.

Executive producers are Lizzie Francke (BFI Film Fund), Katherine Butler (Film4) and Anna Miralis (Channel 4).

The film was developed with backing from the UK Film Council and EM Media.
