Scott Rudin is on board to produce the comedy based on a novel purportedly written by Saddam Hussein.

Paramount today announced that Borat and Bruno director Larry Charles is reuniting with Sacha Baron Cohen on the pair’s next film The Dictator, which will be released in May 2012.

The film, inspired by the best-selling novel Zabibah and The King, tells the story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy never comes to his country.

Baron Cohen is writing, producing and starring in the comedy. Producing alongside the English comedian are Scott Rudin, Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer, and David Mandel. Berg, Schaffer and Mandel (Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm) join Baron Cohen as screenwriters on the feature.

Ant Hines (Borat, Bruno) and Peter Baynham (Borat) will serve as executive producers, while Todd Schulman (Borat, Bruno) is co-producing under Baron Cohen’s Four By Two Films banner.
