Hong Kong-based sales agent GoldenNetwork Asia has added Thai director Nonzee Nimibutr's big-budget actionadventure The Queens Of Pattani to a busy Cannes slate.
Produced by Nimibutr's Cinemasia with backing from Thai studioSahamongkol, the ambitious two-part feature is scheduled to start shooting nextJanuary for delivery by the end of 2006.
Loosely based on events in 16th century Thailand, ittells the story of four queens who ruled the maritime kingdom of Pattani.
'There's a strongfantasy element so it will involve extensive CGI,' says Golden Network managingdirector Carrie Wong. 'We've just received the first draft of the script andwe'll be looking to do pre-sales at Cannes.'
Written by Win Lyovarin, the project was awarded the CineclickAsia Award at last year's Pusan Promotion Plan. The cast so far includes risingmartial arts star Dan Chupong who recently appeared in Born To Fight.
Wong will also be showing footage from the highly-anticipated Ong-Bak follow-up Tom Yum Goong at the market.Due for delivery in August, the film has been widely pre-sold in Asia and Wongexpects to strike a deal for the rest of the world at Cannes.
The company'sslate also includes Mercury Man to be produced by Ong-Bak director Prachya Pinkaew. Bandit Thongdee (The Unborn) will direct the action title about asuperhero fighting terrorists in Tibet.
