Michael Raeburn is to direct an adaptation of Marlene van Niekerk's Afrikaans tragicomic novel Triomf.

Raeburn and Malcolm Kohl have collaborated on the screenplay set during the 1994 first post-apartheid general election in South Africa and focusing on a family from the white underclass.

The film stars Lionel Newton, Obed Baloyi, Vanessa Cooke, Eduan van Jarsveld, Paul Luckoff and Pam Andrews.

Triomf, which has been in development for six years is backed by the European MEDIA programme and two French funds for African cinema, Fond Sud and Image Afrique.

Michael Raeburn and Lyndon Plant, of London-based Giraffe Creations are producers with co-producers: Caroline Chomienne (GH Films, Paris) and Natalie Stange (Red Pill Productions, South Africa)

Associate Producers are Jeremy Nathan of DV8 and Ryan Fortune, of Red Pill Productions and Focus Films.
