As someone who has known and worked with Richard Holmes, I can only say that I'm really shocked by this decision. Over the years he has helped and supported countless filmmakers at the very beginnings of their careers. His extensive film producing experience made him the ideal person to be an exec at Creative England.
I personally wouldn't have a career without his support. He gave me my first job as a screenwriter and didn't question whether an Asian kid from Leicester could adapt a French classic as a movie. He simply believed that I could do the job. Given some of my experiences since then and the whole debate about diversity, I can honestly say I don't know many people who would have backed me in the same way.
Richard has heart, experience and integrity, as anyone who has ever worked with him will tell you.
