The UKFC never nourished the local film industry. It was an organisation rampant with cronyism, contradictions, sinecures and inefficiency. There should be no subjective support for the industry, the cost of administration is too high and the results poor. Unifrance supports far more films than THE UKFC by truly supporting the industry rather than subjectively choosing films.

How many films can Andrea Arnold make for the New Cinema Fund?

What was Skillset apart from a tax payer funded jolly to LA?

How was £12mil spent on equipping privately owned cinemas with digital projection without any hope of recoupment?

Why was the UKFC financing P and A on foreign films? I dont see any other foreign trade body financing films from outside their country.

The legislation was poor to start with. The "used and consumed" provision was close to idiotic. Co-productions have virtually ceased to exist in the UK. Everyone has to come to terms with the fact that it is very expensive to shoot in the UK. If we want to support more films, increase the tax credit for local spend and allow british crews to travel (whilst paying their Taxes in the UK) and having the films return for their studio work and post. We would have a substantial increase in tax revenues and inward investment
