Mike, Didint you read the comment thread of the article that announced the demise of the UK Film Council?? The majority of producers are appluding this move to get rid of the UKFC. Films in the UK are made despite them not because of them.

Yes, the UKFC produce pretty reports but beyond that they are out of touch and not fit for purpose. Their press releases are like fantasy fiction. The UK is a very expensive place to film and that is why people don't shoot here - not sure what the UKFC can do about that when the numbers speak for themselves.

As one poster (on the previous news thread) said - Champayne corkes are popping unp and down producers offices everywhere in London as we are finally rid the anchor on the film industrys neck.

By writing this editorial, talking about how great and wonderful the UKFC is, you are showing how out of touch you are with the real life blood of the indiginous UK film industry - us, the indie producers who never benefited from what the UKFC did.

I am hopeful about the future as the money is still there, but now it wont have to be channeled through the the UKFC which took 24% of the cash to run itself rather than other bodies that took 5%.

So Mike. Listen to your readers, find out what is happening in the grassroots of the industry and stop writing editorials about how wonderful your mates are in the UKFC. As you will be as guilty of abusing your power here at Screen Daily as the UKFC were in abusing theirs.
