Allan's doughty defence of the writer is, in this case, slightly misplaced, since in three of the five examples quoted, the director was also the writer (or co-writer), so who else would you identify as the principal author of the film? Not sure about who wrote Trishna, since intriguingly Imdb only credits Thomas Hardy. And surely it's just sensible journalistic shorthand to say, in the context of a long list, "Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus" instead of "Coriolanus directed by Ralph Fiennes from John Logan's adaptation of William Shakespeare's play."
