Senator International has closed a slew of deals leading into Cannes on The Grudge, the English-language remake of the hit Japanese film Ju-on.

The film has been sold to Nippon Herald for Japan, Planeta for Spain, I Vision for South Korea and A Film for Benelux.

Takashi Shimizu, who directed the original, is making his English-language debut on the remake which is being produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Ghost House Pictures with Taka Ichise, the Japanese producer behind The Ring and Ju-on.

Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison who bought the project to Ghost House will executive produce.

Other new deals on the film were signed by Senator's executive vice president of sales and distribution Pierre Weisbein with Audiovisual in Greece, Panasia in Hong Kong, LNK in Portugal, Europa in Latin America, Golden Village in Singapore, Nontanund in Thailand, Pioneer in the Philippines and Gulf Film in the Middle East. Golden Screen is handling the film in Malaysia.
