Serbia is reconsidering its decision to submit Darko Lungulov’s Here And There as its nominee for foreign-language Oscar over concerns about the level of English dialogue it contains.

Serbia’s Academy of Film Arts and Sciences commission is meeting again this week to consider whether the film, which is set in New York and Belgrade, or if Srdjan Dragojevic’s Saint George Slays The Dragon, which came second in a vote against Here And There should take its place. The American Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences’ selection committee can reject films if they are considered to have too much English dialogue.

Here And There won Best New York Narrative Film at Tribeca and stars David Thornton and Cindy Lauper along with prominent Serbian actors Mirjana Karanovic and Branislav Trifunovic.

Meanwhile, Bulgaria selected Stephan Komandarev’s The World Is Big And Salvation Lurks Around The Corner as its Oscar submission. The Balkan road film took best Bulgarian feature and audience award at Sofia Film Festival and features Miki Manojlovic in the leading role.

Slovenia has slected Vinko Moderndorfer’s Landscape No. 2, winner of eight awards, including best film and best director, at the Festival of Slovene Film in Portoroz, as well as best screenplay at Brooklyn International Film Festival.

Finally, the Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina decided to put forward Namik Kabil’s Guardians Of The Night. The drama premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival.
