Tsui Hark's martial arts film Seven Swords and Peter Chan's musical Perhaps Love lead the race for the 25thHong Kong Film Awards with 11 nods each, closely followed by Johnnie To's triad drama Electionand Andrew Lau and Alan Mak's car racing drama Initial D with 10 nods each. All fourfilms are nominated for best film and best director.

Seven Swords is pitting against Perhaps Love in six categories,including cinematography, film editing, art direction, costume/make up design,sound and original film score.

Election picked up four acting nominations,including two for best actor for Simon Yam and Tony Leung Ka Fai while Wong Tin Lam and Maggie Siuwere nominated for best supporting actor and best supporting actressrespectively.

Leungis also nominated for best actor for his performance in Stanley Kwan's Everlasting Regret which received sixnominations (best actress for Sammi Cheng, bestsupporting actor for Hu Jun and best supportingactress for Su Yan) although it was omitted from thebest film category.

ChenKaige's ThePromise and Jeff Lau's A Chinese TallStory earned five nominations each in mostly crafts and technicalcategories including art direction, costume/make up design, visual effects andsound.

StanleyTong's The Myth (nominated for bestfilm and action choreography), Teddy Chen's Wait'Til You're Older (best actor for Andy Lau andbest actress for Karen Mok) and Derek Yee's 2 Young (best director and new performerfor Fiona Sit) each took four nominations.

Chairman of Hong KongFilm Awards Association Manfred Wong announced that the awards ceremony will beheld at the Hong Kong Coliseum on April 8, in conjunction with the mega EntertainmentExpo (March 20 - April 14).
