Uday Singh, executive vice president of production at Sony Pictures India, has left his post after 12 years with the studio to take up theposition of CEO at PVR Pictures.

Before taking over production, Singh headed up distribution at Sony Pictures India. In his new role, he will oversee both production and distribution at PVR Pictures. 'I am looking forward to a new challenge. In my new role the main challenge will be to build a successful model from the inside out,' said Singh.

During his tenure at Sony Pictures India, the studio gained a dominant market share in the distribution of English-language films and also entered local-language production. Sony was the first US studio in India to produce a Hindi-language film with Saawariya, which was released at the end of 2007.

The outgoing CEO of PVR Pictures is Ashish Saksena. Sony has not yet announced its replacement for Singh.
