Fresh from its best director and public's prize wins at the Montreal Film Festival, new Spanish release Planta 4a took in Euros 541,643 on its opening weekend from just 100 prints through Buena Vista International. The receipts represent a screen average of Euros 5,416 - the second highest of the weekend, and placed it in seventh position.

Antonio Mercero's bittersweet tale of a group of teenage boys in a cancer ward, Planta 4a represents yet another success with a local title for BVI, after recent hits Football Days (Dias De Futbol) and Carmen. Planta 4a also took home the public's prize at the recent Mostra de Valencia and a special mention for the young cast at last May's Malaga Film Festival.

Football Days and Carmen remained in the top 10 after seven and five weekends, respectively. Runaway hit Days now has a cumulative gross of Euros 8.49m, versus Carmen's Euros 5.05m. They are now respectively the second and third highest-grossing Spanish films out locally this year.

The weekend's top two grossers were UIP's Intolerable Cruelty, with Euros 1.3m from 233 copies, and Columbia TriStar's Hollywood Homicide, with Euros 732,287 from 279 prints. Warner Brothers' Mystic River maintained a healthy screen average of Euros 4,504 on 121 copies in its second weekend on release.
